The marketing pages still load no analytics or tracking scripts. If you open the live chat and send a message, the site sets one strictly necessary cookie so your conversation can continue if you come back. The Content Security Policy only lets the browser connect back to byteray.co.uk.

A Cloudflare Worker serves the files and the chat API. Cloudflare records IP address, user agent, and the path you requested so it can deliver the site and stop abuse. We store only a keyed hash of the IP with chat messages, not the address itself. We rely on legitimate interests for that (UK GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)). Cloudflare is the processor. Their edge logs are short-lived.

The chat cookie (__Host-br_chat on HTTPS) is set only after you send a first message. We store the message text, optional email address, the page and chapter you were on, a coarse country code, a browser family, and the hashed IP. Messages are relayed to our team through a messaging service so we can answer in real time. That is a legitimate interest, or steps toward a contract if you are asking for a sweep (Art. 6(1)(b)). We keep a conversation for 90 days after the last message, then delete it. Write to hello@byteray.co.uk if you want a thread erased sooner.

If you write to hello@byteray.co.uk or argus@byteray.co.uk, we read the message so we can reply. That is a legitimate interest, or steps toward a contract if you are asking for a sweep (Art. 6(1)(b)). We keep the thread while it is still useful, then delete it.

Under UK GDPR you can ask us to do any of the following, and you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

  • Access a copy of what we hold
  • Correct it
  • Erase it
  • Restrict how we use it
  • Object to our use of it

Cloudflare runs a global network. Transfers out of the UK use the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or an adequacy decision.
